What is Flow Forming Wheel
Flow Forming process, strictly speaking, it also belongs to the branch of "casting". The wheel produced by its process includes two different technologies: Flow Forming and casting. Firstly, the disk shape and rough embryo of wheel rim are produced by "low-pressure casting". Before this step, it is exactly the same as the general casting method. The rough embryo looks like a wheel hub with short width and thick inner rim, It looks short and fat.
Next, the rough embryo must be sent to the heating furnace and heated to a high temperature of about 400 degrees. Because it is less than the melting point temperature of the aluminum alloy, the aluminum alloy rough embryo still remains in a solid state and only softens slightly to the temperature that can be processed. In "Flow Forming", the side of the rim rough embryo is pressurized and extended by a high-pressure roller. In short, The principle of "Flow forming" is like "hand pulling ceramic embryo". While rotating, pressure is applied to the side to lengthen and thin the aluminum alloy embryo. Due to the re molding of the aluminum alloy under high pressure, the density of the aluminum alloy during processing can be improved and the internal crystal structure of the aluminum alloy can be closer. In this regard, it is pressed under high pressure compared with "forging", The method and principle of improving metal density are the same. Because the metal material is stronger, the strength demand can be met with a lighter and thinner rim body.
